Walt Disney uttered these famous words on Disneyland’s opening day in 1955, and the idea has always brought a smile to our faces when we enter the parks. Given that Disneyland is the only park that Walt experienced during his life, we knew we wanted to do the “Walk in Walt’s Disneyland Footsteps” Tour when we made a visit to the West Coast during Disneyland’s Diamond Anniversary in 2016. Honestly it was one of the most special experiences we’ve had at any Disney Park, and we would strongly recommend it to anyone who loves Disney.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory –– Lunch

We came to Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory for the gluten free beignets. I’d long heard tale of Sassagoula offering a gluten free variety of this New Orleans delicacy, but had been denied this deliciousness on previous trips. On one attempt, Sassagoula was closed for refurbishment. On another, our schedule was too tight to swing it. But this trip – this trip was it. I was finally going to taste Sassagoula’s gluten free masterpiece. We also decided to make a lunch of it and were pleasantly surprised to find that the Port Orleans–French Quarter’s quick service food court serves up tasty dishes beyond their fried dough. Once you arrive in Orlando, one of the first things you’ll need to do is attend the Race Expo. This is where you’ll get your race materials and where you can shop for cute apparel! There is official RunDisney merchandise but also lots of other vendors. One of the most crucial pieces of merchandise at the RunDisney merchandise area is the “I Did It!” shirt. Now, while you might feel superstitious about buying your “I Did It” shirt before you actually do it, they sell out very quickly and you run the risk of not getting one in the size that you want if you wait until you have actually done it. The earlier in the week that you can make it to the expo the better; it gets very crowded. If you can’t make it until the day before the race try to get there right when it opens; you don’t want to waste your time at Disney waiting in line!
